Degree Programs

Colleges & Departments

Morris Brown College’s academic offerings are structured across two key divisions that guide students through a purposeful educational journey: the Lower Division and the Upper Division.

The Lower Division: The General Education Curriculum

The Lower Division encompasses the first two years of study and forms the General Education Core Curriculum. These foundational courses introduce students to diverse fields of human knowledge and experience that shape modern life.

The goals of the Lower Division curriculum are:

  • To prepare students for active, informed participation as engaged citizens.
  • To provide the broad academic background needed for advanced study in technical, professional, or specialized fields aligned with each student’s interests and strengths.

The Upper Division: Major Programs of Study

Upper Division courses are focused on each student’s declared major and related areas of study. These advanced courses build depth and expertise, enabling students to:

  • Concentrate in specialized fields essential for professional preparation and technical training.
  • Acquire the knowledge base and practical skills needed for success in their chosen professions.

Majors and Concentrations

Major

At Morris Brown College, a “major” is defined as a course of study in a knowledge field offered by an academic department and in which the student engages in advanced work in that field during the Junior and Senior years. A major requires a minimum of 66 semester credit hours earned in a single department or in closely related departments. No credit will be granted in major courses for grades below “C”.

Concentration

Major Fields of study require “areas of concentration”. An area of concentration is a specialization area within a major.

Declaration of Major

Each student should make formal application to a major program of study at the end of the student’s second semester, but no later than the fourth semester of matriculation. A “Declaration of Major” or “Change of Major” form must be filed with the Office of the Registrar and the appropriate academic department. Each academic department reserves the right to approve or decline the student’s application to major in that department based on the department’s program entry criteria.

*Each course within our certificate programs is acceptable for full credit toward the completion of the following bachelor’s degree programs: Bachelor of Arts in General Studies, Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management and Leadership, Bachelor of Science in Global Management and Applied Leadership (Esports Performance concentration), and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.
