Counseling & Wellness

Morris Brown College provides enrolled students with counseling services through The Counseling & Student Accommodations office. All counseling services provided follow HIPPA compliant hybrid services. Students are able to choose between receiving counseling services in person or virtually after registering with the Counseling & Student Accommodations office.  All counseling services are complimentary for enrolled students at Morris Brown College.

Services Provided

Individual Counseling 

Individual Counseling is a one-on-one counseling session between a student and a licensed eligible or licensed mental health professional such as a psychologist, counselor, social worker, marriage and family therapist, or a master’s level intern. All counseling services are confidential and HIPPA compliant. Counseling services will only be provided for students who are in the state of Georgia.

Coaching & Consultation 

Coaching & Consultation are one-on-one sessions with a qualified professional to provide services to help students achieve their obtainable goals. This service is offered to all Morris Brown College students in any State.

Crisis Management

Crisis Management is a clinical service provided to students that are experiencing acute psychological distress or psychiatric emergencies. It’s an essential aspect of mental health care, aiming to stabilize the student, ensure the safety of the students as well as others present, and guide the student towards long-term recovery. Any student that is voluntarily or involuntarily hospitalized must complete their stabilization treatment before returning to campus. The student must provide their discharge paperwork from the stabilization center that highlights on going plan for treatment as prescribed by the attending medical or clinical professional. The student must provide proper documentation on professional letterhead showing that they have also attended their first appointment with a psychiatrist/therapist or both after being discharged from the stabilization center. The same documentation is required if the student is attending an Intensive Inpatient or Intensive Outpatient Patient program.

Psychoeducation Skills Groups

Psychoeducation Skills Groups are structured group sessions designed to teach mental health coping strategies, emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, stress management and mood regulation. These groups combine education with practical skills that are useful in helping students manage the pressures of academic performance, peer interactions, mindfulness, self-care, identity development, and life transitions.

Student Success Counseling

Student Success is a structured process that assists students with career exploration, skill development, and goal setting. Student Success counseling will also help Morris Brown Students develop proper skills for their required internships. Furthermore, embarking towards student interests’ exploration, exposure to careers, major-to-career mapping, job market readiness, transition towards full time roles, personal branding, etc.  

Substance Abuse Counseling

Substance Abuse Counseling is a comprehensive support initiative designed to address and reduce substance use and abuse. The program is offered through Odyssey Family Counseling Center as part of a referral-based partnership offering programming free of charge to Morris Brown Students.
