Transfer Credit Guide

Requirements

Use this page to understand how transfer credit is evaluated at Morris Brown College. For course lookups, see the
online course catalog.

Who counts as a transfer?

Applicants who have attempted college-level coursework after high school.

Required documents
  • Official transcript from each college attended, sent directly to the Registrar.
  • Transcripts must arrive by midterm of your first semester at MBC.
  • “Transcript of a transcript” isn’t accepted; we need records from the original source.
Good to know
  • Transfer coursework must come from an institution accredited by a USDE-recognized agency.
  • Only courses with grade C or better are considered.
  • Developmental/remedial courses (below 100-level) aren’t transferable.

How we evaluate your credit

What transfers
  • Up to 90 semester hours (or 135 quarter hours) may be awarded toward a bachelor’s degree.
  • Some courses may transfer to MBC but not apply to your chosen major.
  • Registrar decides what meets core requirements; departments decide what meets major requirements.
What doesn’t
  • Credit toward certificate programs is not awarded from transfer.
  • Unsealed or student-issued transcripts aren’t accepted as official.
GPA & degree rules
  • Accepted transfer credits count toward graduation hours but do not affect your MBC GPA.
  • All students — including transfer — must complete the MBC core. Approved transfer courses may substitute where appropriate.
  • If you transfer in fewer than 30 credits, you must take GED 100 New Student Success. With 30 or more, you’re exempt.

Credit by Exam and Prior Learning

MBC evaluates several non-traditional credit sources. Work with your advisor and submit required forms.
