This course is designed to help students identify, document, and evaluate their prior
learning experiences for college credit. The Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process
enables students to gain academic recognition for knowledge and skills acquired outside
traditional academic settings, such as through work experience, military service,
independent study, community service, and professional training. The student may
receive up to 30 credit hours, subject to evaluation by relevant faculty. Through this
course, students will learn how to compile a comprehensive portfolio that demonstrates
their prior learning and aligns with academic standards. The course covers the principles
and methodologies of PLA, including reflective writing, documentation of evidence, and
alignment with learning outcomes. Students will receive guidance on how to articulate
their experiences in a way that meets the criteria for academic credit.
